Micah
6: 8 was the Life Scripture for my dad, John Truax Medlong. Ever since Lynn
and I began our family, we have tried to raise our children according to the
principles contained in this verse. Jesus said it another way, "Teacher,
which is the great commandment in the Law?" And He said to him, "YOU SHALL LOVE
THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL
YOUR MIND.' "This is the great and foremost commandment. "The second is like
it, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.' "On these two commandments depend
the whole Law and the Prophets." Matt
22:36-40
Paul reaffirmed it, "Never pay back evil for evil to
anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as
it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved,
but leave room for the wrath {of God} for it is written, VENGEANCE IS MINE,
I WILL REPAY," says the Lord. "BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF
HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS
ON HIS HEAD." Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."
Romans 12:17-21
You can distill this into sixteen words, "And just as you want men to do
to you, you also do to them likewise." Luke 6:31
Now, don't confuse this with salvation,
Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers and elders of the people, if we are on trial today for a benefit done to a sick man, as to how this man has been made well, let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead-- by this {name} this man stands here before you in good health. "He is the STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED by you, THE BUILDERS, {but} WHICH BECAME THE CHIEF CORNER {stone.} "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved." Acts 4:8-12
And
this:
"Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who,
although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing
to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, {and}
being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled
Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For
this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which
is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those
who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will
confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
